Sheridan Elm
Sheridan Elm is a private residence in Winnetka, IL.
Design
The house is a rectangular structure, interiorally divided into traverse bays by its column system. Slender press-formed steel channel columns support a ribbed galvanized-steel deck,and the ground floor is a concrete slab, with most floors covered in vinyl sheets commonly used for ballet stage floors. The outside of the home is a polished nod to the rational and romantic principles of its Modernist, prefabricated design.
The inside transitions into a dramatic work of art, utilizing the three primary colors. The blue-painted stair provides a dramatic sculptural element, with red hole-punched joists and yellow accent walls. The bold colors give a sense of warmth and imagination to the industrial palette of materials.
Sheridan Elm features dramatic backdrops of lawn, foliage and sky throughout the home, the Modernist style softened by the dense, surrounding nature, including trailing ivy vines on exterior walls.
